National Cyclocross Series Round 1

July 6, 2016

The National Cyclocross series came to town last weekend, and finally we had a dry fast course.

Cyclocross brings a great crowd of racers and with it a unique challenge shooting the race. Unlike most cycling events, it’s not held on a quiet roads meandering through scenic countryside, or single track snaking through a national forest. Instead cross racing is done at your run of the mill suburban park.

This means there’s toilet blocks, picnic tables, and a jungle gym is usually right in the background where all the action is happening, so positioning yourself in a way to avoid capturing these is paramount. As the races are also usually held in the late afternoon you get that beautiful afternoon ‘hero’ light.

I’ve really been enjoying my Canon 8-15 Fisheye lens, and I used this opportunity to really put it through its paces.
